Legal
Privacy Policy
This page describes how Truth Dating collects and handles your data. Truth Dating is currently in development and has not yet launched to the public. This page sets out, in plain language and in detail, the rules we intend to put in force. It is a truthful draft of what the finished policy will cover, not a finished legal document, and it will be reviewed by legal counsel before the app launches.
1. Who we are
Truth Wireless Limited is the data controller for Truth Dating, meaning we decide how and why your data is processed. You can reach us at eric@eryxlabs.co.ke or +254 743 169 029.
2. What we collect
To create and run your account, we collect account and profile data such as your phone number, name, date of birth, bio, and dating preferences. We collect the photos you upload to your profile, and, with your permission, your approximate location, which we use to show you people nearby and to honor the distance range you set.
We collect basic device and usage data, such as your device type, operating system, app version, and how you interact with the app, so we can keep it working and improve it. We collect the messages you send through the app and related metadata, such as when a message was sent, so conversations can be delivered and, where needed, reviewed as part of a safety report.
We only collect what the app needs to operate, to keep members safe, and to meet our legal obligations. We do not collect more than these purposes require.
3. Verification and biometrics
Identity verification runs through a specialist verification provider, not through Truth Dating directly. The provider performs a liveness check, which confirms you are a real person present at the time of the check, and, for members completing the higher verification tier, a check of a government issued ID document.
We never store your selfie video, raw biometric data, or copies of your ID document ourselves. We only keep the provider's pass or fail decision, and a one-way code generated from your verification that is used to prevent duplicate accounts. This code cannot be reversed back into your biometric data or your document.
Because this involves biometric data, we ask for your explicit consent before your first verification attempt. You can withdraw this consent at any time in Settings. Withdrawing it returns your account to unverified status, removes your access to features that require verification, and deletes our references to your verification decision.
4. How we use data
We use your data to run the core features of the app: matching you with other members, delivering messages, and keeping your account and preferences up to date.
We use it for safety and anti-fraud purposes, such as reviewing reports, detecting fake or duplicate accounts, and enforcing our Terms of Service. We use it to operate and maintain the service, and to meet legal and regulatory obligations, including responding to valid legal requests.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone, for any purpose.
5. Ads and payments
Truth Dating plans to show rewarded video ads inside the app, which members can choose to watch to earn perk credits, described in our Terms of Service. Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before showing personalized ads, and you can choose non-personalized ads instead. Earning credits works either way.
A Premium subscription is billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, not by Truth Wireless Limited directly. We do not receive or store your card details; the store handles payment.
This marketing website does not set tracking cookies. The data practices described on this page relate to the Truth Dating app itself, once it launches.
6. Sharing
We share data with service providers who help us run Truth Dating, under contracts that limit what they can do with it. We expect these categories of providers: our identity verification provider, our SMS and communications provider, our cloud hosting provider, the app stores that process payments, and our advertising provider for rewarded ads.
We share data with law enforcement or other authorities only where we are required to by valid legal process, such as a court order or a lawful request from a competent authority.
We do not share your personal data with other members beyond what your profile is designed to show them, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
7. Retention
When you request deletion of your account, it enters a 14-day grace period during which you can cancel the request and keep your account. After the grace period, we delete your account and most associated data.
A small amount of information is kept longer where the law requires it or where we have a legitimate need to keep evidence of past decisions. Plainly: safety and moderation logs are kept for 24 months, records of a ban are kept for the life of the ban plus 24 months, proof that you agreed to our legal documents is kept for 5 years, anonymized financial ledger totals are kept for 7 years, and evidence tied to an open legal matter is kept until that matter is resolved plus 12 months.
Everything else, including your profile, photos, messages, and location history, is deleted once the grace period ends.
8. Your rights
You can request a copy of your data at any time, and you can request deletion of your account. To make either request, contact us at eric@eryxlabs.co.ke, or start account deletion directly from the delete my account page.
You can also ask us to correct inaccurate information, and you can withdraw any consent you have given, such as consent for biometric verification or personalized ads, without affecting the lawfulness of what we did before you withdrew it.
If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, these rights are provided under the GDPR. If you are in Kenya, they are provided under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. We intend to honor a comparable baseline of rights for members everywhere Truth Dating operates.
9. International users
Some of the providers described in section 6 operate outside your home country, so your data may be processed in other countries as part of running the app, for example by our cloud hosting provider. Where this happens, we intend to put appropriate safeguards in place before launch.
10. Children
Truth Dating is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to use it. If we discover that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will remove the account and the data associated with it.
11. Changes
We may update this policy as the app develops and as we receive legal counsel review. Each version is dated, and if we make a material change, we will ask you to review and accept the new version, in the same way described in our Terms of Service.
12. Contact
Questions about this policy, or requests about your data, can be sent to eric@eryxlabs.co.ke or +254 743 169 029.
